Literacy

Reading

Children are reading throughout the day and hopefully it continues at home.  In our room we have a 60 minute reading block, a 45 minute writing block and a 20 minute phonics block for students to practice encoding and decoding words as well as reading and sentence fluency.

Here is a quick article to help with improving reading comprehension at home!

Writing

Through the use of and guide of Lucy Calkins students will navigate through a writer's workshop model where they will read and write in various genres such as personal narrative, opinion, persuasive, nonfiction, and poetry. Together we will be editing and proofreading our writing and learning how to demonstrate voice and add sufficient detail.

We are editing our work using the acronym C.O.P.S. What do you think each letter stands for?
